Well here goes - I think its time I start the blog now! After 7 months of planning, preparation and intense training and we are 3 days away from departure.ohh err!!!
Mike is nervous and excited - I'm suprisingly calm, I think its due to my mind being preoccupied with the final little things to organise. Sarah is ironing for England and I've not seen so many hangers in all my life!!( I thought I'd moved in to the local launderette!)
Before I go on I would just like to thank all our very very kind Corporate sponsors for all their help in setting this up by providing there goods or financial support free of charge. We look forward to visiting some of you enroute as already discussed and planned.
Everyone else we hope to see you at the start at Lands End or Tiverton, Leamington Spa, Mussleburgh or Wick Cancer Research shops or at the finish line at John o Groats.
One final big thank you to Helen Johnstone from Cancer Research press office who has worked tirelessly and also to Natalie Kenny and Matt the cameraman from Meridian for the fantastc coverage on Meridian News.
Well the campervan is packed and ready to go (pity about the mindless vandal who smashed the headlights last Saturday, thanks mate!! Thank god for Ebay to get the parts!!) I even had to build a ramp for Luke, our poor old German Shepherd, as he can no longer get up the step. Mind you, I think Mike and I will struggle with steps after a few days and we to will be grateful for the ramp!!!
Bikes have been serviced, kit is all checked and all the spares collected from Gary at Winklebury Cycles, our main sponsor, so fingers crossed the bikes will get us there without any hitches.
As to the route, well its supposed to be the flattest!! I will keep you updated on that one!! But I am sure the Anquet Maps software will do us proud.
Sarah and the kids are looking forward to the trip and some fantastic scenery and fingers crossed we will raise loads of cash for what is a very good and personal cause.
If you see us on the road give us a toot!! If you see the van give them a wave. If you happen to see us stationary come and have a chat and please please sponsor us, every little helps no matter how small, it all adds up.
I will have a mobile on me for the trip (07804907937) so if you would like to text us any good will messages please do (please do not call during the day though as we will be riding and its illegal to use the phone whilst cycling so I wont be able to answer) If you are press please contact CRUK (see the press media area) and they will be able to help you get in touch with me during the day.
Well there we go, I will be adding to this blog as we go but internet access is not easy during the trip, however we will try to update as we go the best we can, if not we will publish the rest on our return.
